(2/5/2019, 0845 hrs) At around 2:50 am, APD officers responded to the area of Highway 1 and Tullamore Street to assist Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office units. The initial caller reported gunfire being exchanged between two vehicles.

Officers arrived and contacted a 53-year-old Lena man, Carmello Casciari, who reported that he had been robbed at an unknown location in Natchitoches Parish earlier in the morning. Casciari then got into his truck and pursued the subjects who he said had robbed him, following their jeep to Alexandria. Gunfire was then exchanged between the two vehicles when they were near I-49 and Airbase Road, and the pursuit continued until Casciari's truck went off-road and into a ditch. The truck had several bullet holes in it, and there was reportedly a woman inside who was shot in the leg, who left the scene prior to officers arriving.

Casciari located an RPSO Deputy in the area and reported that the subjects in the jeep had shot his vehicle, hitting his wife. The deputy followed the jeep and attempted to stop it, however the jeep refused to stop, leading to a vehicle pursuit. The jeep was abandoned shortly thereafter, and four males and one female fled the scene on foot. It was later determined that the jeep had been reported stolen in Alexandria on the morning of February 4; according to that report, the vehicle had been missing for about two months.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called out to the scene and began their investigation, which continued throughout the morning. Detectives interviewed several witnesses, and determined that after Casciari was robbed in Natchitoches Parish, he made no effort to contact police or report the crime, and instead pursued the suspects 25-30 miles into Alexandria. During the pursuit, Casciari began shooting at the jeep, firing several times. Once the vehicles left the roadway, Casciari pulled his vehicle in front of the jeep on Airbase Road, at which time one of the jeep's occupants fired at Casciari's truck, striking his wife in the leg.

At around 8:30 am, Casciari was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where he will be charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder and booked. Detectives are still investigating the incident and are working to identify the occupants of the jeep. No booking photo is yet available.
