Deceased Man Found in Truck

(2/27/2019, 1330 hrs) Around 12:10 today, APD responded to a report of a man found dead inside a parked 18-wheeler. Officers arrived at the scene, a parking lot in the 500 block of MacArthur Drive, and found a 56-year-old male dead inside the truck. The vehicle was locked and there were no immediate, outward signs of foul play. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators arrived at the scene to begin their investigation. An autopsy will be performed to attempt to determine the cause of death. The name of the deceased is not being released, as notifications have not been made.

Electrician Charged with Home Improvement Fraud

(2/26/2019, 0900 hrs) On February 15, a homeowner contacted APD to report a fraud concerning a rental house in the 2200 block of Alma Street. The homeowner reported that in 2018, he hired an electrician, Brian Beebe, to do work on the house, paying over $2,000. According to the report, the homeowner inspected the house after Beebe told him the work was done and found that nothing was fixed, and a subsequent inspection by another electrician revealed no work had been done. After that, the homeowner made numerous attempts to contact Beebe and received no response.

Man Arrested for Burglary, Auto Theft, Arson

(2/25/2019, 0900 hrs) Early in the morning on Sunday, February 24, APD officers responded to an investigation at a local car dealership on MacArthur Drive. The Alexandria Fire Department was already on scene fighting a fire in the building when officers arrived. Once the scene was secure, officers learned that someone had broken into the business and stolen over 100 vehicle keys, among other items, before starting the fire and stealing five cars from the lot.

(2/6/2019, 0835 hrs) On February 5, around 8:15 pm, APD officers responded to a local hospital to a report of man shot in the head. Officers arrived and were advised the victim was a 19-year-old male with life-threatening injuries, and the on-call detective was called out.

Man Talked Down from Bridge

(2/5/2019, 1000 hrs) On February 4, a few minutes before noon, APD officers responded to the levee, north of the Curtis Coleman Bridge, to a report of a man trying to jump off of the train bridge. Officers arrived and found a white male lying down on a pylon below the bridge, who told officers he would jump if they approached. A member of APD's Crisis Negotiation Team, arrived on scene and established contact with the subject and began speaking with him. After approximately one hour, the male agreed to climb up to the bridge and walk off to land.

Man Charged with Soliciting Child via Social Media

On January 22, APD Detectives were contacted by a mother who reported that her eight-year-old daughter had received sexual messages on social media. According to the initial report, the child had been receiving messages from a friend's older family member. The messages were initially sent via the friend's social media account, but that soon changed into the older family member using his own account. The messages began on January 19, and quickly escalated to profane, sexual content.

Man Charged in Accidental Shooting of Child

(1/29/2019, 6:30 am) On Monday, January 28, APD responded to a home in the 2100 block of Alma Street, where a five-year-old female had been shot in the side. The girl was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and has been in stable condition since yesterday evening. Initial reports indicated that the gun had been fired from outside, into the house, however this was quickly disproved. After processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses to the incident, Detectives were able to ascertain that the shooting was accidental.

Child Accidentally Shot on Alma Street

(1/28/2019, 7:20pm) At around 4:15 pm today, APD officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Alma Street, to a report of a child being shot. Officers arrived and found that a five-year-old female had been shot in the side. The child was conscious and alert when officers arrived, and was taken to a local hospital. The child's condition was stable at the time of this release.
