Suspect Arrested for September, January Arsons

On September 9, the Alexandria Police Department responded to a report of a battery at a house on Madeline Street. Officers arrived and made contact with a female victim who had been battered by her boyfriend. The woman, who was pregnant at the time, was slammed against a car hood and beaten unconscious, requiring medical attention. The suspect was identified as Joseph Michael Elie.

Man's Body Found Beside Road

On January 11, around 6:20 am, APD officers responded to Autumn Orchard Loop, near Old Boyce Road, to a report of a body being found. Officers arrived and found a 37-year-old male lying in the ditch beside the road, deceased. The investigation so far has revealed no signs of foul play. The male was identified, and officers were informed that the deceased had a history of drug use. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The identity of the male is not being released at this time to ensure that all proper notifications have been made.

Update: Christmas Day Homicide

After continued investigation throughout last night and this morning, APD can confirm that there are definite links between the two homicides that took place on Christmas Day. Information given to detectives, combined with physical evidence, confirms that the shooter, Wendell Reed, knew the victim who was killed on 3rd Street, and was in phone contact with her minutes before the shooting. The nature and extent of their association is being looked into.

Christmas Day Homicides

On December 25, around 3:30 pm, APD responded to the intersection of 3rd Street and St. James Street in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived and found that a woman had been shot inside her car at this location. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A few minutes later, we received a call of a second shooting at a residence in the 2300 block of Madeline Street. Officers arrived there and found that a man and a woman were both dead from gunshot wounds.

Three Arrested, One Wanted in Multiple Burglaries

Investigations into a series of burglaries has led to the arrest of three suspects this week, as well as active warrants on a fourth. 18-year-old Jaylen Price, 18-year-old Javoris Jones, and a 16-year-old juvenile were charged in connection with burglaries of businesses in Alexandria, including a September burglary of a local pawn shop in which several guns were stolen.

Additional Charge Added in Child Sexual Abuse Case

On December 17, Alexandria Police Department Detectives arrested William Ellington, a 59-year-old Alexandria resident, on charges of Felony Sexual Battery and Felony Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. These charges stemmed from an investigation beginning on December 11, in which Ellington is alleged to have had sexual contact with a 9-year-old. (To read the original release, click here). 

Jennings Woman Charged with Staging Kidnapping

On December 10, the Alexandria Police Department was contacted by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office in reference to a missing person. EPSO requested that APD check on the welfare of Rebecca Champion, who had been reported missing and was possibly at a house on Marilyn Ann Street in Alexandria. Initial reports indicated that she had possibly been kidnapped by her boyfriend and forced to go with him after he threatened to hurt Champion's husband.

Man & Woman Charged in Sexual Abuse of 12-Year-Old

On December 11, around 11:00 pm, APD officers responded to a home in the 2600 block of Houston Street to a report of a sexual battery. Officers arrived and learned that a 64-year-old man, identified as Eddie Morgan, was allegedly walked in on while touching a 12-year-old's genitals. The scene and people present were secured and detectives were called to continue the investigation. Morgan was transported to APD Headquarters for interview, after which he was arrested and charged with Felony Sexual Battery, and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
