Man Arrested in Motel with Minor

On December 4, APD officers were contacted by the Department of Children and Family Services to assist in locating a missing 13-year-old. APD and DCFS located the juvenile in a room in a local motel, where she was with a 29-year-old man identified as Dillan Carriker. During the investigation, a search of the juvenile's phone revealed that a messaging program had been used by Carriker to communicate with the juvenile, including sending a photo of his genitals and asking multiple times for pictures of her.

Hit & Run Driver Charged with Third DWI

On November 30, around 3:30 pm, APD officers responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Chester Street and Rapides Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and learned one of the drivers fled the scene of the crash at high speed, however a witness was able to get the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle. Officers identified the vehicle's owner and driver and with the assistance of the Ball Police Department, they located the driver, Anitia Minton, at her home on Eastbrook Trace in Ball. Officers immediately detected signs of impairment and conducted a DWI investigation.

Man Caught After Chase, is Wanted in Multiple Jurisdictions

On November 19, around 7:00am, APD officers stopped two bicyclists traveling into opposing traffic on the wrong side of the road near the intersection of Levin Street and Tennessee Avenue. The two males could not provide identification and the officers' attempts to identify them with the names they provided were unsuccessful. Officers had reason to suspect one of the males was lying about his name and he was detained and placed in handcuffs.

Man Charged with Attempting to Cash Forged Check

On November 19, around 12:30 pm, APD officers responded to a local bank in reference to a report of a man attempting to cash a forged check. Officers responded and contacted bank personnel, who said that the suspect had just left the scene in a white truck. Officers attempted to locate the truck nearby but were unsuccessful. Contacting bank personnel again, officers learned the man was identified as James Williams, and was attempting to cash a check for $200.

Cameras Catch Two Vehicle Burglars

On November 24, around 8:40 pm, APD officers responded to a business in the 3200 block of MacArthur Drive, to a report of a vehicle burglary. Officers arrived and were informed that a car had been burglarized and a cell phone stolen. Employees at the store showed officers surveillance video footage which showed two males committing the burglary, after which they got into a silver car and left the scene. About twenty minutes later, officers received information that the suspects' vehicle was parked at a house in the 3000 block of Hynson Street.

Man Charged with Home Invasion, Felon with Firearm

On November 24, around 10 pm, APD officers responded to a home in the 2900 block of Cypress Street to a report of a man forcing his way into the home. Officers arrived and were informed that a man, identified as Albert Varra, Jr, kicked in the door and entered the home, and that Varra had a gun. Officers located Varra nearby and he was detained without incident. According to statements made to the responding officers, Varra had been kicked out of the house about a week prior and was no longer living there, however he entered the home anyway and said he was not leaving.

Suspect in Battery and Homicide Captured

On November 23, around 6:30pm, APD officers responded to a home in the 1800 block of Beatrice Street to a report of a battery. Responding officers contacted a woman who was covered in blood, who said she had been attacked nearby at another home in the 1700 block of Beatrice Street, where several other people were present. The victim was hit multiple times with the handle from an ax, as well as with a gun, causing lacerations to her head. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation.

Felon Driver Charged with Firearm

On November 3, around 3:15 pm, APD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Chester Street, near Levin Street. During the stop, officers immediately smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers were able to conduct a search of the vehicle and located a handgun under the seat. When the handgun was found, the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Two More Arrests Made in Theft / Burglary Ring

Two more suspects were arrested over the weekend in connection with a rash of burglaries and vehicle thefts in and around Alexandria. Early on the morning of November 11th, Nikkie Diane Wise and Timothy Wade "TJ" McDowell were charged in connection with a November 1st burglary of a residence where multiple firearms and a car were stolen. Wise was charged with Aggravated Burglary, while McDowell was charged with Aggravated Burglary and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Both were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
